Thanks (Part 1)

“Zayn…” you hissed under your breath as you felt his hand slide up your leg. You squinted one eye open to see his brown orbs crinkle into a knowing smile as your father finished saying grace. It was Thanksgiving, your favorite holiday, and Zayn was meeting your family for the first time. Since your father was the traditional sort, you were only concerned that he would disapprove of the rebellious/rocker vibe that your boyfriend of 6 months gave off. You promised him that if he was on his best behavior, he could have anything he wanted the next day. So far so good, but his lustful gaze kept trailing your body in every free moment. You rolled your eyes and laughed, knowing that you were driving him crazy. You excused yourself and told your family that you were going to start the dishes. Zayn offered his help, and before you knew it, he had swiftly pinned you against the kitchen counter and was talking in your ear.

“Y/N, you know what I’m thankful for?” he asked, pushing himself as close to you as he could get. Your heart beat faster and you smiled as you pulled his face close to yours.

“What?” you whispered, leaning your lips to his, lightly brushing them together. He was so…warm. You forced yourself back to reality when he started to speak again.

“I’m thankful for your hands,” and he interlaced his fingers with yours, “I’m thankful for the way you smell like lavender and cinnamon ” and he nuzzled his face into the crook of your neck, “I’m thankful for your…lips,” and he smashed his lips into yours. You made out fast, but careful, and when you parted you glanced to your right. Your face fell as you looked with utter dismay into the eyes of your father.

She’s Not Afraid

I glanced at the clock at the usual time. 9:47 on the dot. I had just enough time to throw myself into my sheets and turn off my lights before mom made her usual stop to “check” on me. I heard the door open and counted to five. 1…2…3…4…5…and the door eased shut. I smiled to myself. I loved my mom, but this was getting too easy. I hated keeping secrets from her, but she wouldn’t understand. The feeling of the icy night air hitting my face as I climbed out my window gave me a rush that I couldn’t describe to anyone. I leaped out of bed and adjusted myself. Harry’s favorite white dress clung to my slender body, exposing the outlines of my hipbones. It had a deep v in the front which would probably give my mother a heart attack, but it was probably what I liked most about it. I slowly exhaled as I brushed away the flyaways from the pin straight dark hair that reached my hips. I laughed when I heard the triple knock on my window from my best friend, Maggie, exposing the smile that Harry loved so much. I popped in some watermelon gum and rushed to the window.

“Hey Mags, you ready for some fun?” I said, with a mischievious wink.

“Y/N, I really don’t think we should keep-“

“Come on, Mags, don’t be a scaredy cat, let yourself go,” I tugged on her hand as we climbed down the trellis. We hopped in her car and I blasted my favorite song. Despite Maggie’s protests, I stuck my head out of the sunroof. It really did feel like flying. When we arrived at the party, I saw Maggie in the light.

“Maaaaaaags…” I groaned. I walked up to her and yanked the clip out of her hair. I fluffed it up and ordered her in the house with a little smack on the bum.

“I’ll meet you back here, but keep an eye on your phone in case of an emergency…” Maggie explained carefully. But by this point, I was far from listening. I was daydreaming, as usual. I walked off and smirked when I caught sight of Harry playing 7 Minutes in Heaven. I walked over, catching the attention of all the boys in the room. Harry looked me from my head to my feet, and bit his lip.

“Hey boys, mind if I join?”I flashed them my most dazzling smile, making some of them forget to close their gaping mouths.

“Ah, look who decided to show up,” teased Harry.

“Me? Miss this? No way,” I winked, earning the glare of all the other girls in the room. Of course, Harry maneuvered the game so that him and I ended up in the closet, much to the dismay of every other guy and girl participating. As soon as the door closed, I felt Harry’s hands run up and down my back, sending electrical jolts up and down my spine.

“Y/N, I was afraid you weren’t going to come and…” he breathed.

“Kiss me,” I said, feeling his lips on mine. It made my stomach uneasy, whenever we kissed. It was like everything stopped, and it was just him and I. But I could hear Maggie’s voice in my head: Don’t get close, Y/N. You know what happened last time, I just don’t want you to get hurt.

“I need to tell you something, Y/N,” Harry pulled away. I could feel myself panic, because this was how it happened last time. A boy said those three stupid little words and I was head over heels. And he just left me.

“Stop, Harry. Kiss me, please,” I said, desperately kissing him, but being overpowered. He pulled away and held my face.

“Y/N, listen to me. I love you so much, and I will never leave you. I love how you are fearless in every way. I love how you love scary movies and kissing in the dark, and feeling alive. Because you make me feel alive too.” At this point, I could feel my eyes stinging and my cheeks getting red. I hated not feeling in control, and I hated myself for loving a stupid boy who said those three stupid words. In that moment, all I could do was choke out, “Harry, I love you too.” And for the first time in my life, I was afraid of something…and I kind of liked it.
